Rita Benedict, age 63, of Akwesasne passed peacefully on Sunday Augsut 23,2020 at the Ottawa General Hospital. Rita fought bravely after a kidney transplant and subsequent dialysis and a battle with cancer. Rita was a health care aide for many years and a PSW with Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. She was the beloved wife of Richard Powless; loving mother of John Terrance Jr., Dorothea Terrance and Joseph Terrance. Rita was the cherished grandmother of Joseph Jr., Mason and Haidyn. Dear sister of Margaret Benedict, Jean Benedict, Darlene Gray, Benson Benedict, Silas Benedict and Stanley Benedict. Pre-deceased by her parents David James Benedict and Theresa Leaf, and her chosen father Henry Smoke; her siblings Jimmy, Caroline, Pauline, Chester, Betty; and her usband John Donald Terrance. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lahaie and Sullivan Funeral Home, West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West in Cornwall (613-932-8482). All services are private as requested by Rita.
