Akwesasne Museum Intern Position 2020:

 


This summer position is made possible by a grant from the IMLS and is in coordination with the Wild Center and the Six Nations Indian Museum. Applications will be taken beginning July 6th and reviewed until filled. The position will begin as soon as possible.

The Museum Intern is under the direct supervision of the Akwesasne Museum Coordinator, Iakonikonriiosta and is responsible for assisting in safeguarding the museum collection, assisting in the operation of the museum gift shop sales and other projects as assigned.

Museum hours of operation are Monday- Friday 9-3.

Interns hours: The intern is expected to work a minimum of 12 hours per week as scheduled by the Museum Coordinator.

Pay rate: $15.00 per hour.

Duties Include:

• Cataloging and storing museum collection items

• Giftshop sales

• Touring museum visitors through the gallery when requested

• Develop displays for your video monitors

• Assist in maintaining a clean work and gallery space

Education:

Post-secondary courses in History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Art, Native Studies, Museum Studies or related studies.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Knowledge of Akwesasne History and Culture

• Post-secondary Courses in History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Native Studies, Museum Studies or related studies.

• Good people skills, in person, on the telephone, social media

• Good computer skills

• Good verbal communication with small groups of people,

• Retail Sales experience

• Ability to take direction from Supervisors

• Prioritize tasks

• Flexible

Ability to film and edit video/audio clips into a presentation is consider a bonus.
