Popular Swimming Spot Closed Until Further Notice
On Wednesday, June 25, 2020, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's Compliance Program informed the community that the Point in Kana:takon will be closed until further notice as they attend to an animal issue in the area.
Children swimming with googles found a dead dog wedged between the rocks on the riverbed. Compliance was notified and are waiting for a diver to remove the carcass. The water was tested and did not meet standards applicable for public swimming or fishing. MCA Compliance ask that swimmers and fishers refrain from going to the Point for now.
The water will be tested once the dead animal is removed by divers and MCA will provide an update once the space is back open for residents to enjoy. The community will be notified on the MCA website and their Facebook page. They ask for your patience and understanding.
