The Family of Taylor “Tubbs” John would like to thank all who have showed their support to our family during this difficult time. Our family has been blessed to be part of such a caring community and the support we received during this time of sadness has touched our hearts.

Tubbs was loved by many and his gift of song will not be forgotten. We sent him off in his chosen colors of original clothing wrapped in a Buffalo hide and lines with a Pendleton blanket. A new pair of mocs that he was able to do a quick dance in and a fresh ribbon shirt. His lacrosse stick, snow snake, birdcall and arrowhead were also placed with him. He has his wolf effigy pipe filled with Oienkwaón:we for when he’s ready to smoke. A sash given by one of his best buddies and a hand-tanned deer hide from his brother. My last viewing of him is how handsome he lay and the new-found peacefulness he carries on his journey to the Sky world and that his voice now lifts the spirits of our ancestors through song. May your voice echo forever in light my Sun.

During this sorrowful time, I would like to share an added burden that our family encountered.

It is one thing to lose a loved one… it is another to lose a loved one during a time of uncertainty due to the COVID -19 outbreak. Our family’s experience during this time was dealing with just that.

Never in my imagination did I think my extended family could not be present at a funeral. Never in my imagination did I see Pall bearers and family members wearing masks. I felt for a second, and asked myself, Am I really experiencing this? This can’t be. But yes, it’s real, very real.

The many restrictions we faced felt unforgiving. The differences are for sure. We adjusted, we became resilient, and we came up with new forms of creative adaptation. Thank you everyone for working together and making these adjustments for a better burial under these restrictions.

Our thanksgivings and appreciation for food, monetary donations and support in the many aspects needed during this time go out to:

The many cooks who donated foods and drinks that kept us nourished and well.

The Bear Clan Side for kitchen help – Kakwireiosta Hall, Tasha Skidders, Peachy Skidders and Deb Solomon

The Speakers – Aronhiaíes Herne and Kahentaké:ron David

Nelson Jock, David Arquette and crew for graveside amenities along with Jr and Valene Grey for use of their backhoe

Jocks Sanitation Solutions, Lazore’s Construction, Clearwater Caskets and Donaldson’s Funeral Home

Our nephews who kept the fire going and my Sisters and Brothers who lent their strength and support as good families do.

And finally, if I have missed you, please forgive my oversight.
