No new COVID-19 cases have been reported to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center.

Three people on the southern portion of Akwesasne have tested positive. One has recovered and the other two are expected to be released from mandatory isolation and recovered, according to Brendan White, SRMT communications director.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne EOC wouldn’t say how many cases of COVID-19 s, if any, have been confirmed on the northern side, and referred a reporter to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit. EOHU did not reply by the press deadline for this edition.

According to Marc Miller, as of April 24, there have been 95 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in First Nations communities on reserve (across Canada) and 14 infections in Nunavik Inuit communities. Miller is Canada’s minister of Indigenous Services.

Cases in Akwesasne’s neighboring communities continue to go up. Franklin County Public Health Department reported 13 positive cases in the county, with 105 people in quarantine. That was as of April 24, the most recent date for which data was available.
