Massena boys and girls each knocked out by Malone in Class A title matches

The Massena Raiders boys and girls basketball contingents were both unable to best Malone in Section 10 Class A championship bouts at SUNY Potsdam on Monday, Feb. 24. The final score was 55-48.
In the boys competition, Massena got out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and increased that to 26-18 at the half. Malone slowly took control of the game to get out to a fourth-quarter lead and hold on for the win.
Massena’s Ryan Herrick scored a team-high 12 points. Ethan Barney scored 10 points. Chris McGregor and Ethan Firnstein scored nine points each. Zach LaBarge tallied six and Adam Peets two.
For Malone, Damien Poirier scored a game-high 17 points. Payton Poirier fashioned 10 points. Patrick Poupore notched six points. Keegan Monette had five points. Aiden Decillis and Alejandro Sosa both scored four points. Alex Preve, Keith Shafer and Gavin Barse all connected for respective single three-point field goals.
The Massena and Malone girls played the same day, with the Huskies walking off the court with a 60-41 win.
Malone opened with a 10-0 scoring run that lead to them holding a 12-4 lead after the first quarter. Massena ramped up their offensive efforts in the second quarter but still faced an eight-point halftime deficit. The Huskies kept control of the game in the third quarter and pushed ahead to a 41-31 lead going into the final stanza, and then outscored Massena 19-10 in the last eight minutes.
Tori Jacobs set the offensive pace for Massena with a team-high 18 points. Tsiakoseriio David scored three points and Aryssa Hopps netted two. Shaylena Mandigo scored eight points. Nova LeGrow tallied six points. Savannah Gauthier notched three points.
For FA, Madison Ansari scored a game-high 34 points, along with seven boards, five assists and four steals. Leah Gallagher scored 17 points with 20 rebounds and four assists. Mackenzie Lane scored five points with four caroms and three helpers. Ryleigh McCauley and Makenna Stone each scored two points. Caitlin Douglas netted a free throw.
