MCA Hosts 5th Annual World Wetlands Day

 

MCA's Environment Division join their partners for World Wetlands Day.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's Environment Division has found some new and exciting ways to engage the community. One particular event; World Wetlands Day has become an annual event in Akwesasne, thanks to MCA.

Every year on February 3rd, people across the world celebrate World Wetlands Day with a different theme each year. This year's theme was "Wetlands and Biodiversity" and there was definitely plenty of diversity at this year's event.

Community members enjoy a day of learning and sharing, at the 5th Annual World Wetlands Day.

This year's World Wetlands Day event took place at the Tsi Snaihne Recreation with all sorts of fun activities for families to enjoy. Some of the different activities held at this year's event were snow shoeing, plants identification, puppeteers, arts and crafts and plenty of informational booths.

"We would like to thank everyone that showed up and celebrated this wonderful day with us. I want to thank all of our partners, Raisin Region Conservation Authority, South Nation Conservation, Frontenac Biosphere, Kahnawake, Blue Gill Fishing, Parks Canada and the Coast Guard; as well as Angello Johnson with Good Mind Design, who came out and did a skinning demonstration, really amazing!," stated Abe Francis of MCA's Environment Division.

Francis added, "Thank you to Ashley Johnson and Waheson for coordinating all of this wonderful communication for us. Thank you Iakwashatste, the puppeteer- Glen and Johanne Jackson for all the wonderful food."
