Shamrock boys come up short against N-N, OFA; Massena easily downs Malone

The Salmon River Shamrocks were shut out by the Norwood-Norfolk Icemen 2-0 on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Dominic Zappia Arena in Norfolk. Salmon River netminder Ryan Oakes Jr. stood tall in the net with 27 saves. Ryley Ashley scored what would hold up as the game-winner, with helpers from Jude Lauzon and Robert Voss. Jayden Grant connected for the insurance goal on a play set up by John McCall. Icemen goalie Thomas Cafarella turned aside 22 shots.

The Massena Raiders broke open a stalemate game against the Franklin Academy Huskies with six late goals to leave the ice with a 6-1 win on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Patrick Barclay scored the only two goals Massena would need, the first happened with just over a minute remaining in the second period, assisted by Matthew Trimboli and Zack Barney.

Mikey Kuhn scored unassisted 4:13 into the third period, then just over six minutes later Nicholas Linstad connected for the fourth Raider goal, with a helper from Nicholas Morrell. Malone's only goal occurred 20 seconds later, an unassisted marker by Adam Fakir. Connor Terry scored the fifth Massena goal at 11:50, on a play set up by Barney and Garrett Engstrom. The final marker came off the stick of Kuhn with 45 seconds left in regulation with assists credited to Morrell and Aidan Aldous.

The Shamrocks lost to the hosts Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils in a 3-2 overtime tilt on Friday, Jan. 17. OFA got out to an early lead, but lost control of the game in the third period and then reclaimed their footing in overtime. Karson LaRose scored the first goal of the game for OFA 3:05 into regulation, assisted by Derek Barr.

At 9:55, Salmon River's Khyler Johnson tied the game, after getting the puck from Zach Durant and Luke Miller. LaRose pushed OFA back out to a 2-1 lead just two minutes later, assisted by Stephen Morley. The middle frame was a stalemate. In the third stanza, Durant scored 3:45 in to tie the game at 2-all with a helper credited to Connor Lewis and Johnson.

After 3:27 of overtime, Jack Mills scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Marc Barr. Shamrocks goalie Ryan Oakes Jr. denied 29 scoring attempts. OFA goalie Kelson Hooper made 44 saves.
