Akwesasne Mohawk Police Seize 39lbs of Cannabis Marihuana

(November 20, 2019) On November 5, 2019, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Save Team was conducting a joint forces operation with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), monitoring activity on the St. Lawrence River.

At approximately 7:00 PM, a vessel was observed traveling without navigation lights to a landing and multiple bags were removed from the vessel and placed into a pick-up truck. As the pick-up truck departed, police maintained visual surveillance and followed the vehicle to a residence in Tsi Snaihne, Quebec.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service attended the residence and seized 39 pounds of cannabis marihuana and a pick-up truck that was used in the commission of the offence. The investigation is continuing as police believe the cannabis marihuana was to be exported to the United States for high resale profits.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service would like to remind the community that recreational cannabis is currently legalized in Canada and a person age 19 years or over can possess up to 30 grams. Anyone without the proper documentation or licensing may be charged with a criminal offence for possession over 30 grams of cannabis marihuana.
