LESTER R. COOK

 

AKWESASNE – Lester R. Cook, 63, of 401 St. Regis Road, unexpectedly passed away Friday night, September 27, 2019, at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Lester was born on September 20, 1956 in Massena, son of the late Robert Cook and Dorothy Sawatis. He attended Salmon River School and served in the US Army with the 101st Airborne Division. In June of 1984 he married Kelly Weatherup.

Lester was an Ironworker with Local #440 Utica. He enjoyed making traditional lacrosse sticks, carpentry and restoring cars. He also enjoyed his time boating, fishing, and traveling.

Lester is survived by his children, Jeremy and Shaudé Cook of Junction City, KS, Alyson Cook of Rochester, Joshua Cook of Rochester, and Meghan and Chad Quicke of Potsdam; a chosen son, Liam Weatherup of Queens, NY; and five grandchildren, Lola, Lily, Oliver, Liam, and Noava.

He is also survived by 11 siblings, Lionel and Louise Cook, Leon and Velma Cook, Doreen and Curtis Oakes, Debra Cook, June Arquette, Cynthia Sawatis, Carl Cook, Phyllis Jacobs, Randy and Florence Cook, Bobby Cook, and Brett Cook; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a grandson Owen Weatherup on September 21, 2018; and a sister Dale N. Cook on July 31, 2003.

Friends called at the home of Marshall and Janine Rourke on Tuesday where a funeral service was held on Wednesday with Rev. Jerome Pastores officiating. Burial will follow at the Veterans Cemetery.
