Statement from the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police on Streetlight Device
The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police posted the following statement on their Facebook page on Thursday, June 20, 2019:
We have received questions regarding a device located on the traffic lights at the intersection of State Rte. 37 and St. Regis Rd. We reached out to the New York State Department of Transportation, as they oversee the traffic lights, and we were informed that the device needed to be installed to facilitate traffic light changes. Due to milling of the roadway and current reconstruction on St. Regis Rd. the regular magnetic sensors in the roadway, which normally facilitate the traffic light changes, had to be removed necessitating the installation of the current device. The device detects heat that then signals the light to change and it will need to remain in place until the completion of the road construction later this summer. There will be a similar device installed on the Helena Rd. side to aid in traffic signal changes when that portion is milled as well.
