Massena Raiders win Section 10 Class A title, Salmon River softball season ends in sectional semi-finals

The Massena Raiders baseball team won the Section 10 Class A title, and the Salmon River Shamrocks softball squad’s season came to a close in Class B semi-finals.
Massena defeated the Franklin Academy Huskies for their title. Pitcher David Dubray threw a two-hitter as they won 7-1. He struck out 10 batters and walked two. Malone managed their first hit in the fifth inning, off the bat of Patrick Poupore. They notched their one run in the sixth inning.
Neither team committed any errors.
Chris Paige for Massena started in the first inning, crossing home plate on an RBI single from Garrett Engstrom. Matt Phillips and Engstrom both scored later in the first inning after Zack Goolden connected for a two-run double. Engstrom scored a run in the third, as did Robbie Southwick. In the sixth, Zack Monacelli scored on an RBI single from Paige, who then crossed home plate later in the inning thanks to an RBI single from Phillips.
On Wednesday, May 29, the Lady Shamrocks lost in Section 10 semi-finals by just a single run, 4-3 to Gouverneur. Mikaylee Henhawk went the distance on the pitcher’s mound with four strikeouts and batted a triple. Hillary Cook went 3-3, including a double. Laney Smith and Shea Mousaw each singled and doubled. Jazmine Mattice knocked a triple. Taylynn Wylie went 3-3. Carli Cartier and Karli St. Ann each hit singles.
Gouverneur’s Marina Wood struck out six and earned the win.
