Good starts for Massena, Salmon River 2019 lacrosse seasons

Massena and Salmon River’s lacrosse teams are off to healthy starts to their 2019 seasons, picking up opening week wins against Plattsburgh, Ogdensburg and Potsdam.

On Saturday, March 30, the Massena Raiders boys downed hosts Plattsburgh 4-2 in their season opener. Zach LaBarge and Tyler Thompson each scored once with an assist. Luke von Borstel and Nick Morrell picked up the other two Massena goals. Hayden Hoerner turned aside 13 shots. Ethan Vaughn and Corbin Murray scored for the competition. Joey Jamison made 10 saves.

On Tuesday, April 2, the Lady Shamrocks took a big 20-2 win in their 2019 opening game against hosts Ogdensburg Free Academy. Jill Benedict paced the offense with five goals. Joryan Adams scored three times with two assists. Meg Martin and Tera Mitchell scored twice each. Payton Logan, Kendall Jock, Morgan Jock, Paisley Cook, Kania Swamp and Annabelle Mitchell each punched in a solo goal. Brounetta Terrance covered the SRC net for 11 saves. Elizabeth Peo and Caroline Lalone scored for OFA. Ellie Foster made 17 saves.

On the same day, Shamrocks boys lost their season opener to hosts Ogdensburg Free Academy 10-6. Cayden Sunday netted a hat trick for SRC. Cobie Cree, Hawi Cook and Crayton Cree each scored once. Falcon Cook made 12 saves. For OFA, Isaac Testani scored twice with a trio of assists. Nick Snyder made 18 saves.

On Wednesday, April 3, the Lady Shamrocks added another win over Potsdam with an 8-6 final score. Joryan Adams, Jill Benedict and Jianna Lazore led Salmon with a pair of goals each. Paisley Cook and Wynter netted singletons. Kendall Jock tallied one helper. Brounetta Terrance turned aside six shots. For Potsdam, Josie Bruso and Daysia Wagner each scored twice. Erica Sloan and Lauren Shipp each scored once. They had two people spend time in the goalie crease. Olivia Scott made four saves and Julia Basford amde seven.

On Thursday, April 4, the hosts Massena Lady Raiders claimed their season opener with a 16-7 victory over Saranac Lake-Lake Placid. Sophia Mitchell led Massena with three goals and a helper. Lindsey LaDue also fired in a hat trick. Nova LeGrow, Ariana Thompson and Katelyn Kennedy each scored twice with one assist. Julia Blair scored once with three assists. Madison Ward chipped in a goal and a helper. Kylie Letham and Aryssa Hopps netted solo goals. Skarlet Wilson made six saves. For SL-LP, Leghan Byrne and Olivia Ferebee each scored twice. Alex LaDue, Ryley Fischer and Kylee Clark each scored once. Erica Swirsky made six saves.
