ANGUS RALPH BROWN "Doodlebug"

 

HELENA – Angus "Doodlebug" Ralph Brown, 81, of State Route 37C, passed away Wednesday morning, March 20, 2019 at his home.

Angus was born November 30, 1937 in Hogansburg, the son of the late Morris and Bertha (Jock) Brown. He attended St. Regis Mohawk School and Bombay High School. On January 18, 1955 he entered the US Army, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge on March 20, 1958. Angus was blessed with five children. His first child, Patrick Ralph Brown was born while he was married to Merta Jo Bocook in Colorado. While he was living in Buffalo, he and his companion, Eva Martin were blessed with a son, Charles Brown. While married to Janice Tarbell of Akwesasne, he welcomed the birth of his first daughter, Dianna. He was later blessed with two more daughters, Rachael and Elizabeth, when he was married to their mother, Patricia Manchester, who predeceased him in 2003.


Angus was an ironworker belonging to Local 33, working for American Bridge Company for many years. After his retirement as an ironworker, he started truck driving. He was an owner/operator of Kala Trucking for over 15 years. He served as the Past Commander of the local Rochester chapter of the American Legion and was currently a member of the Andrew W. Cook American Legion Post #1479 and the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group. He found great enjoyment while on the golf course, fishing, and just hanging out with his pet buddy, "Bandit." In his younger years, he was a member of the Rochester Iroquois Lacrosse Club.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Karmen Miller; his children, Patrick Ralph Brown (Anita) of Nebraska, Charles "Chuck" Brown (Bonnie) of Akwesasne, Dianna Tarbell (Paul Francis) of Akwesasne, Rachael Cousins of Scottsville, New York, and Elizabeth Snyder (Daniel) of Southport, North Carolina; his stepchildren, Jeffrey Manchester of Florida, Garret Manchester of Clifton, and Sean Manchester of Florida; his grandchildren, Tyler Brown, Brooke and Jessica Francis, Kaitlyn and Karlee Cousins, Morgan and Trevor Snyder, and Lauren, Ashley, and Austin Manchester; his great grandchildren, Shadow and Storm Steeprock; his sister, Phyllis Point of Kawehnoke and Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Cocca.

At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A celebration of life and memorial meal was held Friday, March 22nd at the Andrew W. Cook American Legion in Hogansburg. Burial will be held privately in St. Joseph's Cemetery at the discretion of the family.
