NORMA LOUISE JOCK

 

AKWESASNE – Norma Louise Jock, 90, a resident of Sunrise Acres, passed away late Sunday evening, January 6, 2019 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.

Louise was born April 18, 1928 at the family home in Akwesasne, the daughter of the late Andrew and Josephine (Tarbell) Jacobs. She graduated from Bombay High School and later attended Mater Dei College. On October 16, 1948, she married Daniel A. Jock at St. Regis Catholic Church. He predeceased her on June 7, 1992.

Louise first worked for a time at a resort in Lake Placid and at the Tru-Stitch Slipper Factory. She also was a bus driver for Salmon River Central Schools and was a teacher's aide for the Mohawk Language teachers at St. Regis Mohawk School. Of all her jobs, being a mother and Tota was her favorite. She was an active communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church, where she was a catechism teacher for many years and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Kateri Circle. She was also a life member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She took great pride in her cooking and baking and also enjoyed reading and flower gardening.


Louise is survived by her children, Harold and Donna Jock of Constable; Kenneth Jock and his wife, Jennifer Standing Arrow of Akwesasne; Gloria and Kenneth Arquette of Akwesasne; and Daniel Jr. and Melissa Jock of Maplewood, Ohio; her grandchildren, Michelle, Karri, Kory, Tyler "Kawi", Dana, Michael, Cameron, Kody, Stephanie, Ethan, Elijah, and Elizabeth; several great grandchildren; and a chosen daughter, Barbara Ann Namias. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Chubb of Akwesasne; her brothers, Gerald and Josie Jacobs and Artie and Nancy Jacobs, all of Akwesasne; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Patricia Jock; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Irene Jock; and her brothers, Louie, James, Harold, and Wallace Jacobs, Sr.

Friends may call Friday 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 AM with Rev. Jerome Pastores officiating. Burial will be in the spring in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Akwesasne.
