BEATRICE BERO "Tekaroniahkwa"

 

AKWESASNE – Beatrice "Tekaroniahkwa" Bero, affectionately known as "Tota Bero," 78, of 413 St. Regis Road, unexpectedly passed away late Sunday evening, December 16, 2018 at Cornwall Community Hospital.

Beatrice was born December 19, 1939 in Cornwall the daughter of the late Paul and Agnes (Square) King and attended St. Regis Village School. On January 31, 1960, she married James E. Bero at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Jacobs officiating.

Beatrice was a Personal Support Worker for Mohawk Council of Akwesasne at their first Home for the Elderly in Kanatakon for approximately 25 years. She was an active communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church and a member of the Kateri Circle. She was also an active member of the St. Regis Mohawk Office for the Aging, the Tri-District Elders, and was a former member of the St. Regis Recreation Center. Beatrice enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, her grandchildren's sporting events, houseplants, flowers, hummingbirds, and traveling. She loved to cook, having family gatherings, and decorating for the holidays – especially Christmas. Beatrice had a very generous spirit, her door was always open for her family and friends.


Beatrice is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy; her children, Veronica and Jerry Thompson of Akwesasne; Rory "Buddy" and Rosalie Bero of Bombay, New York; and Johnathan "Moochie" and Leslie Bero of Akwesasne; her grandchildren, Derrick King, Caralee, Justin, Charlan, and Aliyah Thompson, Nicole and Nathan Bero, Dale George Conners, and Michael and Mitchell Gardner; and 10 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers, Norman and Nancy King and Pat King, all of Akwesasne; her sisters-in-law, Catherine Square, Angie King, Rhonda King, Caroline Lazore, and Cecelia King; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Beatrice is predeceased by her sisters, Christina King, Mary Ellis King, and Nancy Swenson; her brothers, Stanley Square, Abraham, Michael, Albert, Jerry, and Paul King.

Friends may call at the Akwesasne Homemakers starting 4:00 PM Wednesday until 12:30 Friday, December 21, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 2:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores celebrating. Burial will be in Kateri Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens or the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department Station 1.
