Massena volleyball season comes to a close in state playoffs

After a near-perfect regular season and a Section 10 championship, the Massena Raiders varsity volleyball season came to an end in state playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 10.

They lost to the Burnt Hill Spartans in three sets, the scores of which were 25-11, 25-14 and 25-7.

Massena played a good defensive game, but couldn't match the Spartan hitters.

"Setters Sophia Mitchell and Ieronhenehtha Lazore played great defense as well as libero, Ariena Kirkey. Maria Sbaffo and Anna Thompson, outside hitters hustled and had two kills each. Gabby Durant and Delany Durant, middle hitters served well and had a presence at the net. We had a great season with great seniors," Massena Coach Maggie Farrell said after the game.

Burnt Hill was paced by Carlie Rzeszotarski (10 kills) Callie Chevalier (seven kills), Lindsey DeBain (eight kills), Samantha Versocki (nine kills, three blocks and Claire Isaksen with 36 assists. Kristen Langdon had three service aces.
