AKWESASNE – Edna J. Cook, Kaienarahstha, 67, of 507 Cook Road, passed away Wednesday evening, September 19, 2018 at her home after a brief illness.

Edna was born August 17, 1951 in Cornwall, the daughter of Lenora (Abraham) David and the late Moses David. She attended school on Kawehnoke and East Front Public School. She later took carpentry courses at St. Lawrence College. On June 1, 1974, she married William J. Cook, Jr. at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Francis Arsenault officiating.

Edna worked for a time at Levi Strauss in Cornwall. She later worked throughout her community as a carpenter for the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, a janitor for the schools, and a substitute cook at the community daycares. She enjoyed making traditional jewelry and various other crafts and selling it throughout her community. She also enjoyed picking sweet grass, painting, and going to the powwow. Edna also enjoyed playing pool, having belonged to the Eagles Pool League.

Edna is survived by her mother, Lenora of Kawehnoke; her husband, Bill; her children, Arlene (Cook David) Rodriguez and her husband, Carlos Sr .; Bazil Cook; Craig Cook and his companion, Keisha Arquette; and Dana Cook, all of Akwesasne; her grandchildren, Carlos Jr., Cesar, Darian, Elsie, Kailee, Elaina, Kayleen, Adriane, Janice, Kaleb, and Kahionhatakie; and her great grandchildren, Brennan, Cayson, Caelia, and Jrake.

She is also survived by her sisters, Viola Marshall, Ida Cameron, Virginia "Gina" Jacobs, Betty Ann David, and Deborah David, all of Akwesasne; her brothers, Frank and Kateri David, Richard and Jane David, Leon and Margaret Delormier, Mark David, and Lawrence and Sandra David, all of Akwesasne; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by two infant granddaughters, Morgan Cook, and another at birth; and two brothers, Andrew Donald David on January 1, 1981 and Robert Vincent David on January 6, 1981.

Friends called at the Cook Farm Homestead from Friday until Sunday. Her funeral ceremony was held at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse on Sunday, September 23. Cremation will follow.
