Medicine Men host opening home game of second season as a team

The Bear's Den Mohawk Medicine Men on June 2 hosted the opening home game of their second season as a team.

They played the Three Nations Junior B League bout against the Seneca War Chiefs at the new St. Lawrence Centre Arena turf field.

Seneca proved a tough opponent, outscoring the hometown team 7-1 in the first period, 11-2 in the second and shutting them out in the third.

Josh Huiatt accounted for all three Medicine Men goals. The first came midway through the first period with assists from Payton Vanbibber and Ohsenadekha Mitchell. Cole Zeller assisted the second goal and, along with Abram Garrow, their third marker as well. They were recorded in the middle stanza, respectively at 2:02 and 14:42.

For the War Chiefs, Sherman Williams scored a game-high six goals and five assists. Clay Scanlan had three goals and five helpers. Emerson Stevens scored twice and assisted four plays. Cody Bielec had three goals with three assists. Kaleb Benedict made five assists. Kayden Porter scored once with a trio of helpers. Dawitt Martin, James Chadwick and Tristen Jensen each scored once with an assist. Joe Conte assisted two plays. Solo goals came from Pete Masters, Cameron Carpenter and Skylar David. Pierce Smith and Ryan Kidd tallied respective single assists.

The Medicine Men two days earlier lost a road game against hosts Onondaga Red Hawks by a final score of 14-8. The Medicine Men have a break of nearly two weeks before returning to battle it out with hosts Tyendinaga on June 14 at 7 p.m. and hosts Seneca on June 16 at 7 p.m.
