2nd Annual Little Heroes Safety Training Camp
The second Annual Little Heroes Safety Training Camp took place this past Friday, June 1st. The event was held at the St. Regis Recreation from 5 to 8 p.m. The Little Heroes Safety Training Camp consisted of a variety of booths, each with a different safety topic to learn about. The event was aimed at children ages 2 and up, for it's never too early to start teaching our young ones about safety. The different safety topics that were discussed were: cyber safety in superhero style, water safety, sun safety, road safety, environment safety, tick safety, car seat safety and medicine safety.
Iakwa'shatste Youth Fitness organized the event, so of course there was some physical activity involved. The main event of the evening was the Obstacle Race. The first Obstacle Race was for children ages 2 to 5, the second Obstacle Race was for children ages 6 and up. There was no prior registration; everyone could sign in as they arrived. The children had a great time getting their face painted and making their own capes and medallions. So even if a child didn't come dressed up as a super hero they certainly left looking like one. Most of the children became certified safety heroes by visiting all of the safety booths. All the children had a great time in the Obstacle Race and becoming Safety heroes. The Community Health Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program, Akwesasne Mohawk Police, A/CDP, Seven Dancers Coalition and Iakwa'shatste Youth Fitness helped organize and present the Little Heroes Safety Training Camp.
