2018 Sock Hop

On Friday, May 18, 2018, CKON Radio and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort hosted a Sock Hop at the casino. A great time was had with dancing, contests, and door prizes. Former CKON icon Larry “The Eagle” Edwards showed his support by showing up decked out in his 60’s outfit. You know you had a successful event when you look out on the dance floor and see it packed with dancers. Events such as this can only happen with the assistance of many. Therefore, CKON General Manager, Diane McDonald thanks the following for helping to make the Sock Hop a success:

• The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort for co-hosting and Emily Lauzon for approving the event.

• The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Partnership Program for the grant.

• The casino’s Julianne Skidders and Vicki Boyer for assisting with the room, tables and chairs and all around set-up.

• Jared Gray for assisting with sound.

• Reen Cook and Buck “the Wild Child” for being hosts of the event.

• Reen for spinning the music and Buck for his entertaining monologues.

• Daniel “Hightower” for going to the casino the day before to set up the sound system and coming in on his sick day to get the equipment operating so the Sock Hop could begin.

• CKON’s Finance Manager Gina Jones-Thompson for working the front registration desk and preparing contest prize money.

• Akwesasne Communication Society Board Member Rudy Hart for acting as Sock Hop security so no alcohol was brought into the dance.

• CKON also thanks Tribal Sub-Chief Agnes “Sweets” Jacobs, Tribal H.R. Director Stacey Holcomb and Casino Assistant Manager Emily Lauzon for being the judges for the contests. Great Job by all three judges! Niawen Kowa!

• Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Kawehnoke District Chief Vince Thompson for assisting with packing up and loading the CKON vehicle after the dance for the second year!

• Lastly, and certainly not the least, a special thank you to Amber McDonald for volunteering to work the front registration desk with Gina, helping to clean up and taking photos, and Ryan Jerome McDonald for volunteering to come to CKON after the dance to unload all the equipment, helium tanks and decorations and putting them away. Your support is truly appreciated.
