Akwesasronon Enter the Raisin River Canoe Race
Bruce Boots and Arnold Printup took to the water for the 5th year in a row to compete in the Raisin River Canoe Race. The RRCR is the longest running canoe race in Eastern Ontario. It first started in 1973 and the 30km course runs from St. Andrews to Williamstown. The race is always held during the spring freshet when water levels are high and flows are favorable for paddlers.
The 46th Annual Raisin River Canoe Race left St. Andrews West on a gorgeous April morning and wound it's way downstream to Williamstown. A flotilla of 165 canoes and kayaks comprising of paddlers of all ages, from near and far, entertained spectators all along the 30 km route.
There are eight possible categories to enter: 2 people recreational, 2 people pro canoe, 2 people 17 foot open, 2 people kayak, single pro canoe, single recreational canoe, single long kayak and single short kayak.
Boots and Printup finished 12th in their category (2 people recreational) and 31st overall. Not too bad out of 159 teams.
