EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

PERMANENT FULL TIME POSITION DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SALARY LEVEL: SP 7 STEP 2/3- $48,594.48- $50,538.26

 


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the supervisor, and the in charge EMT, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will perform duties associated with providing rescue services and emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, Mountain Lake Regional protocols and AMA policies. The EMT will conduct a patient assessment including but not limited to vitals such as blood pressure, pulse rate, pulse oximetry, lung sound auscultation, observe pupillary reaction, blood glucose monitoring, palpation of body areas, splinting, checking pulse, motor and sensory of extremities, inspection of injuries and the use of the Cincinnati Stroke Scale. The EMT will administer basic life support treatments including but not limited to and subject to periodical changes: Albuterol, oral glucose, aspirin, naloxone, epipen autoinjector epinephrine, intramuscular epinephrine injection, insertion of oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways, use of automated external defibrillator, performance of cardio pulmonary resuscitation, positioning and suctioning of airway, spinal motion restriction, bleeding/hemorrhage control, oxygen administration, CPAP, and use bag valve mask. The Emergency Medical Technician is also a mandated reporter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or a GED as evidence of completion of a high school education.

• Current NYS EMT certification and American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification.

• EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) or CEVO (Coaching Emergency Vehicle Operation) course completion.

• Requires 6 months of experience in the field of rescue and emergency medical services.

• Must have 5 years driving experience with a clean drivers abstract.

• A clean criminal reference check (CPIC) for the vulnerable sector is required.
