The coaching staff of the Akwesasne Wolves Bantam Girls could not have asked for much more out of their players as they won gold at the Glengarry Heartbeaker Tournament. The Wolves opened up the tournament with a 3-0 win over the Kanata Rangers B1. Riana White's aggressive play netted her with 2 goals while Maranda Richer's never-stop momentum resulted in a goal. Abby Pennell and Emily Betournay-Kuhn both had an assist.

In the second game, the Wolves faced off against the host Glengarry Highlanders. The Wolves were going for redemption as they had failed to win in the last two league meetings. In the 2nd period, White started the scoring with an assist from Mackenzie Shane. The Wolves took a 2-0 lead by the end of the 2nd period on Richer's goal. The Wolves dominated the 3rd period with goals from Shane and Rayne Arenovich. Arielle Bissonnette and Pennell had assists in the 4-0 win.

In the final game of round robin play, the Wolves were meeting the Russell Coyotes, the league's 1st place team. The lone goal went to Russell in the Wolves' 0-1 loss. The same teams would meet in the finals. However, the Wolves had a different ending in mind for the gold medal match. Both teams had many scoring chances but solid defense and strong goaltending resulted in scoreless regular and overtime play. The gold medal was going to be awarded after a shootout. The match finally came to an end as the sixth shooter for the Wolves, Emily Betournay-Kuhn, netted the winning goal while sister goaltender, Amy Betournay-Kuhn, continued to deny the Coyotes from scoring.

Next up for the Wolves are the ODWHA A Playoffs which started on Tuesday, February 20th in Cornwall as well as a final tournament in Brampton. The Wolves would like to thank Welch LLP, Emard Lumber, Canadian Gypsum Corporation and CKON Radio for the sponsorships to allow them to participate in tournament play.
