JOSEPH WOOD

HOGANSBURG – Joseph Wood, 89, of 1252 State Route 37, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 26, at the Massena Memorial hospital, with his loving family by his side. He had been a patient since November 22, 2017.

Joseph was born June 14, 1928, at the family homestead, son of the late Jake and Mary Bero Wood. He attended St. Regis Mohawk School, and on February 18, 1950 married Christine Comstock at the St. Regis Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Jacobs officiating.

Joseph first worked as a lumberjack, then as a laborer for 13 years out of Montreal, and then as an Ironworker with Local #440 until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church and he enjoyed watching hockey, golf, horse racing, World Series Baseball, the Olympics, and the North Franklin Girls Hockey. Joseph also enjoyed watching birds, playing cards, gardening, horseshoes, and shuffleboard. But most of all, his greatest love was his time spent with his family and grandson.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Christine; his son David J. Wood of Akwesasne; and his daughter Vicki A. Wood and her companion Allan Terrance of Akwesasne; his grandson, Ronald J. Wood; seven god-children; his sisters, Helen and Gil White of Massena; Diane and Dave Linzy of Rochester; Darlene Jacobs of Akwesasne; and his brother, Billy and Claire Wood of Rochester.

Besides his parents Jake and Mary, Joseph was predeceased by his sister Louise Cooke in 2010 and his brother Phillip "Dewey" Swamp in 1970.

Friends called at Kateri Hall in Hogansburg on Wednesday until Thursday, November 30, when a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. John L. Downs celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hogansburg.

Arrangements are with the Donaldson funeral Home, where memories and condolences may be shared online at http://www.donaldsonfh.com.
