Mohawk Medicine Men Win Nations Cup

After four days of box lacrosse action at Massena Arena, the Mohawk Medicine Men are the 2017 Nations Cup champions.

Competing teams also included the Akwesasne Thunder, Seneca Marksmen, Kahnawake Hunters, Caughnawaga Indians, Western Rez Boys, Onondaga Red Hawks and Ohsweken Aces.

The Medicine Men won the title against the Red Hawks 21-9 on Sept. 17.

Grayson Phillips scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 4:47 left in the second stanza, on a play set up by Skkylar Thomas. The Medicine Men outscored Onondaga 6-2 in the first period, 10-5 in the second and 5-2 in the third.

Earlier that day, the Medicine Men and Thunder went head-to-head with the Medicine Men earning a 9-6 win. The teams were tied 3-3 after the first period, went on to outscore 4-1 in the second and 2-1 in the third.

The tournament MVP was Medicine Men goalie Kobe Johnson.
