On August 18th, 2017 at 10:00AM the 18th Annual DisABILITY Awareness Event took place at the Generations Park inside the Travis Solomon Lacrosse Box. Many different programs were set up and ready to give out information on what and how they can help anyone with any sort of disability. The event is aimed towards people of all ages, from services for children to services for young adults and older to assist them to become self-reliant and to gain employment. There was plenty of door prizes given out to everyone in attendance. As well, there was entertainment set up for everyone to enjoy along with a delicious free lunch.

Shelly Jacobs, TVR Program Manager, Lena Purlee-TVR Counselor and Jamie Bay-Director of Community and Family Services at the disABILITY Day.

Shelly Jacobs, Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Vocational Rehabilitation Program Manager states "It is important for our community to come out and see what services are available for the community to work with to assist with any disability. We're about employment outcome, so were here to help to community gain and maintain employment."

There were many booths set up from the SRMT, MCA, Franklin and St. Lawrence County services as well as state wide service booths each providing information on different services are provided to the members of Akwesasne. With the many services offered, this is one of the reasons this event was started: to educate people of what services are available for their specific needs.

It was a great event, everyone was able to learn the large diversity of services they can access if they ever needed to in the future. The event had a great turn out, thanks to the nice weather.
