Niio Perkins Among Designers Featured in 'Native Fashion Now' Exhibit
The ensemble on the left, titled Emma, by Niio Perkins (Akwesasne Mohawk) shows the endless possibility of beadwork, which is rooted in her Native heritage. The ensemble on the right is by Elizabeth James-Perry (Aquinnah Wampanoag). "The colors, textures, the creative rhythm of someone... weaving and threading and beading together a certain pattern; it's like telling a story," James-Perry said. "Being part of that storytelling process is central to my identity as a Wampanoag woman."
