Onkwehonwe Artists Exhibit Featured in Malone Studio Art Tour

On Saturday, September 19, 2015, Foothills ARTSociety has organized a self guided Studio Art Tour in Malone, NY and surrounding areas. The tour will start at 10am and it includes 13 stops. A map of the tour can be found online at http://www.foothillsartsociety.com.
This year, as part of the tour, an Exhibit of Onkwehonwe Artists will be displayed at Pouring Light Studios located at 432 E Main St. in Malone. Owner Michael Hart said he's been wanting to do something with the Native population for years. He noted how the tour doesn't really extend to Akwesasne.
This is the first year Pouring Light Studios will be involved in the artist tour. Hart was talking with Beverly Quenville, Studio Art Tour organizer, and Charlotte King from the Onkwehonwe Arts Council. They wanted to have artists from Akwesasne represented, and Hart had been wanting to do something with them as well, so, as Hart put it, "It turned out perfect."
Some of the artists in the exhibit include Charlotte King, Bruce Boots, Victoria Ransom, Kit Thomas, Owisokon Pauline Lahache and Martin Loft.
Pouring Light Studios is located on East Main Street in Malone, NY where an Onkwehonwe Artists Exhibit will be on display at the Studio Art Tour on September 19 to October 17, 2015.
"I've enjoying meeting all these new artists," Hart said. "To see the different perspectives on art, some traditional and some contemporary, and I've learned some Mohawk pronunciations."
Hart's studio has been open since 2009. He views his studio like a library, it is a public place and he loves artists to come in and speak with him about art and about life in general.
Pouring Light is also hosting the Studio Art Tour Wrap Up, an "Evening of the Arts featuring Onkwehonwe Artists," that night, September 19th, at 6:00pm. Everyone is welcome. There is a $5 cover and the event includes food, drinks, music and art.
If you miss the Studio Art Tour, the exhibit of Onkwehonwe Artists will run at Pouring Light Studios through October 17, 2015. Pouring Light Studios is located in the same cluster of buildings as Flemings Furniture.
Regular Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11am to 5pm and by appointment and the studio can be reached at 518-481-5150.
