If you haven't been watching the TV series "Hit the Ice" then you've been missing Akwesasne's own Cory Garrow. "Hit the Ice" is a reality TV show that showcases the best young male Aboriginal hockey players as they come together for a 2-week NHL-like training camp. From physical training, on ice drills and different team building activities, these prospects experienced the highs and lows of the "Hit The Ice" experience.

Cory Garrow landed a roll in the TV series "Hit the Ice" at the 2013 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships. After the last game, John Chabot came up to him and invited him to the show. He is a goalie who has played for Salmon River and the Junior B Wolves.

We finally caught up with Cory as he has been busy as a freshman at Algonquin College.

Cory said "Hit the Ice" was filmed in July of last year for about 2 and a half weeks at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. During filming the players stayed right on campus.

"The cameras are continuously around and in your face. It was eye opening to see how a reality TV show is really done," said Cory.

The show started with 28 players, but they only kept 20 so there were nerve racking cuts. And Cory made the cut. "I met a lot of new guys and a lot of NHL players. We got to spend time with them and skate with them. We got a lot of good advice from John Chabot and a lot of opportunities from being on the show."

Next season Cory plans to try out for Junior A teams and then hopes to play in college after his junior career is done.
