A Black Friday CKON radio promotion paid off well for the annual Christmas Basket/Mountain of Toys event held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the former IGA building on Route 37. CKON was all ready to run a Black Friday promotion but wasn't sure which type of contest to run. Misty Tarbell, CKON's Traffic Coordinator came up with the idea of having community members donate an unwrapped toy and receive a ballot for entry into the Black Friday giveaway which was a $500 gift card. Although the contest had a slow start, as the date for the drawing grew closer, the toys starting pouring in. Offering a ballot for each toy donated was a big selling point because it gave participants more chances to win. The amount of toys donated surpassed the expectations of CKON staff. Anybody buying toys for children know that even dollar store toys, can add up to one hundred dollars pretty quick. The toys donated were not dollar store toys they were excellent quality toys for all ages. The Akwesasne Communication Society and the staff of CKON thanks all those who donated toys and participated in the contest and supported the community event.
