This weekend’s trip took us to Boston. After the workday we got into our car and headed to St. Regis to pick up my mom. She had been patiently waiting for us to hit the road for an hour. Finally at 6 pm we were on our way out of town. We got as far as the eastern edge of the reservation when I remembered I had left my camera behind! We turned around and got it. By now it was 6:30 pm and we were finally headed to our destination. We watched the sunset on the NY-Vermont ferry. The boys were so amazed by how much the colors in the clouds changed and how quickly. It was a beautiful sunset, the type you see painted in pictures.

We made it through most of Vermont before we stopped for sandwiches and a potty break. The boys of course had lasted so long because they had used the bathroom on the ferry and little brother exclaimed, “I’m on a boat! Our car is on a boat! And now I peed on a boat!” His bathroom humor never wears thin. I’m just glad he is talking so well. We drove a few more hours and stopped again in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Grandma told us where she used to live in that city and the boys couldn’t believe how far away from home she was. After that break to stretch and see the inside of yet another bathroom we got buckled up and made our way onto the highway for the last leg of our journey.

By the time we reached our hotel on the outside of Boston it was 1 am. The boys and their dad had all been asleep for hours before we made it there. I woke them up and they groggily walked to our hotel room. The boys shared a big king size bed with us, and out of what must have been sheer exhaustion, did not kick us once.

The first thing we were going to do was see the New England aquarium. The line for admission was long.  It was between ninety and one hundred degrees Saturday. Big brother stood in line with my mother and I, while little brother went exploring the wharf nearby. We got our tickets and with perfect timing little brother came around the corner with his dad. Upon entering big brother said, “wow!” And little brother said, “eww it stinks!” While there we saw three massive sea turtles, penguins, sharks, fish, jelly fish and stingrays. Big brother touched a stingray. Little brother poked a jellyfish.

After winding our way down the four story tall aquarium’s spiral ramp we headed to our hotel. Of course the boys had to go swimming right away and to their surprise the hotel had two pools, one inside and one outside, both saltwater. They loved that, especially since we were near the ocean. That night we went to downtown Boston and toured it on foot. The boys’ favorite parts were all the street performers and the comic book store that had everything mine craft! We slept good that night and Sunday we spent the day sightseeing in Salem.

We toured a witch museum, that place the boys including dad had to leave early out of life threatening boredom. We found the house of seven gables, which was a stop I wanted to see because I’ve read old books with the house mentioned. We ate gelato at a cute cafe and little brother found a pirate museum on our walk. Between all the roaming around we found some very neat antique shops and historic spots. Before heading home Monday we spent the day at the Boston children’s museum. If you have little ones we recommend it. Everything was for the kids to play with and was interactive. I’d have to almost drag them out of a room only for them to be as excited when they saw the next one. There was a three-story fishing net with wooden carpet as an enclosed play gym for the boys to run off their energy. There was a rock wall, TV studio, miniature main street but the highlight was the water room. Everything from whirlpools to a working dam was at the kids’ fingertips. A close second was the construction room. That room was everything work site and even had real construction machines for the kids to go climb on and explore. At the end of our day we got in our car and were on the road again, this time for home.
