Oculus VR in Akwesasne?

Dear Monica,

What can you tell me about the Oculus Virtual Reality headset?

How and where can I get one for myself?

Signed,

Curious Walter

Dear Curious Walter,

The Oculus Rift is a Virtual Reality headset designed for immersive gaming.  The headset prototypes are completed and have been shipped out to about 6000 software developers worldwide along with the software development kit (SDK).  It’s not available to the public yet and no date is set for public resale yet.  More software is currently being developed for the headset, including Half-Life and Doom video games.

Demo games and software are available for the headset at this time.  Software developers are currently researching, developing, and testing new software for the headset.  I am in the research and planning stage and scheduled to start developing later this year.  Of course I am focused on developing serious gaming / learning environments for Endangered Language Revival projects.  If any of our local software developers are working with UnReal, Unity, ObjC, and Java do contact me to discuss collaborative projects.  The OculusVR.com website provides demo videos and details.  You can also search YouTube.com for “Oculus Rift” and “Oculus VR” to see what all the excitement is about.

Send your questions about computers and the Internet to info@IndianTime.net and I’ll do my best to answer you with future articles.
