Power Wheels Race at AMS

On Saturday November 3rd, a Power Wheels Racing event was held at the Akwesasne Mohawk School. Kids drove the power wheels around a track made out of small orange cones. The kids did laps around the track in one direction and then they were turned around and did the course in reverse. The race started a little late because they got into the building later than they had wanted to, but by 2:30 the kids were just about finished.

The event was for children 3-8 years olds. The event was organized by Cynthia Lord, Liaison Officer for the RCMP, and Rob White, Community Service and Support Officer for Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service. They also invited PJ Burns, Community Service Officer from St. Regis Mohawk Police, to come down and be a part of the event. It was a light turn out for this event, “This is our second power wheels event, our first power wheels event we had about 30 kids, so we thought more kids would show up,” said Jenny Boots. That didn’t deter the group. Terri Bova said, “we do it for the kids to have fun.”

Lord said, “It’s cool because lots of kids don’t have the chance to use their power wheels with other kids, it teaches them the rules of the road.” Lord wanted to give credit to Chrissy Jacobs as an original co-creator of the event as well.

After all the playing and driving, pizza was brought in from Pizza Hut and every one sat down and had lunch.
