Happy 100th Birthday to Christine Fadden on July 3rd from Indian Time and the community.

Christine Chubb (“Chris”) was born on July 3, 1912. She was born in the farmhouse of her maternal grandparents, Louis & Katherine Dauime Back, which was located on Drum Street at the end of Kahionhes Road (known today as Hart Road) within the eastern portion of the Mohawk community of Akwesasne. Christine is the eldest of five children. When Christine was twelve years old she moved to Niagara Falls as her father got a job there and Christine helped her mother with the Mohawk craft of basketmaking. She met Ray Fadden and on October 30, 1935 they were married. They set up housekeeping on the Tuscarora Reservation where Ray taught school. During the late summer/early fall of 1938 they moved to Akwesasne where Ray began teaching at the St. Regis Mohawk School. Since 1957 Christine & Ray lived in Onchiota, NY. Ray, due to health reasons, spent his last years at the Iakhihsohtha Nursing Home at Akwesasne, passing away in 2008. Also to ill health and age, Christine has also moved to Iakhihsohtha, doing so in 2006. Iakhihsohtha is located a few miles from where she was born off Drum Street.

Additionally, Christine and Ray created the Six Nations Indian Museum in Onchiota, NY during the summer of 1954. Chris worked in the craft shop as Ray talked to the museum visitors. Christine and Ray have one son, John, daughter-in-law, Eva, three grandsons, and four great-grandchildren.

Christine enjoys visiting her many friends and relatives, doing crafts, reading mystery novels, and doing crossword puzzles.
