The Snake Island Muskies and the St. Regis Braves started the Iroquois Lacrosse Association’s 2012 season with a rematch from last year’s Presidents Cup final Thursday night at the Massena Arena.

It was the first game of the season for both teams. The Muskies were shorthanded, with just nine runners. Peter Paul suited up for the Muskies in goal. The first period ended in a 5-5 tie.

During the second period Muskies’ Chancy Johnson slashed Jay Thomas of the Braves. Thomas turned around and two-handed Johnson in the face. The two then squared off to a pretty good fight. By the end of the second the score was 13-11 for the Braves.

Both teams exchanged five goals during the third period and the Braves won 18-16.

Scoring for the Braves were: Troy Lyons (3, 4), Lee Thomas (1, 4), Tyson Square (3, 2), Angus Leborgne (5), Peter Jacobs (2, 3), Scott Thompson (1, 4) Chip Bradley (2, 2), Craig Thompson (1, 1).

Scoring for the Muskies were: Joe Hall (4, 4), Evan Cree (2, 5), Kyle Point (1, 6), Curry Rice (3, 1), Chancy Johnson (3), Raweras Mitchell (2, 1), Matt Skidders, Jr.
