Diaper Diaries

No matter how big, Our children are here to stay

But our babies are not, I’m sad and sorry to say

You’ll watch as they grow and learn everyday

In the most remarkable and intriguing way

We watch and admire our babies so little and young

Hoping someday they will grow to be strong and have lots of fun

Wisdom and integrity are a hopeful thought too

Their brilliance is simply amazing that much is true

Next they’re off to school and you don’t know what to do

The house is so uncomfortably quiet and calm

You try to keep busy, for noise you turn the washing machine on

But it doesn’t quite fill the missing sound of children playing and carrying on

You finally get used to this daily routine of goodbye and hello

But deep down inside you don’t want them to go

It doesn’t matter if you can’t have anything nice

Because they’re your babies when they need you’ll never think twice

Too fast they grow big and begin to test

You worry more and almost never rest

Now comes the time they learn to drive a car

They run distant roads even when you told them not to go far

The last year of high school is here

And you prepare them for tests but hope they stay near

Across the country is too far you fear

They promise you that you’ll always have their ear

Off to college and all grown up, how could this be?

Just yesterday it seemed they were wittle not yet three

You couldn’t wait to watch them grow

Then the day comes when you must watch them go

Cherish the little moments so sweet and tender

They grow up too fast and will call after their first fender bender

But remember this, as I reassure you with a tear in my eye

Babies are your children and your children will never say ‘Good Bye’

As you watch a Great Grandmother holding that lil’ one

You will sit astonished by the miracle that’s been done
