Kana:takon School September Awards Assembly

On Friday, October 7, Kana:takon School held their first Monthly Awards Assembly. Students in Head Start, K4, K5, Grade 7 and 8 were recognized for Attendance, the Reading Campaign and Student of the Month.

Respect was the character trait for the month of September. The following students were recognized for their respect that they show to staff, students and themselves on a daily basis. In Head Start/K4-Kobe Cuillerier, K5-Kyle Cuillerier, Grade 7A-Taylin David, Grade 7B-Larissa Cook-Lazore, Grade 8A-Aidan Francis-Forgues and Grade 8B-Amanda Lazore. Each student received a certificate and a gift bag filled with items that were donated by various area businesses. Kana:takon School would like to thank the Cornwall Colts for tickets to their games, Ononkwasona Pharmacy for their monetary donation, Wal-Mart Cornwall for the gift card, Archie’s Mini-Putt for free games and Play it Again Sports for the $5.00 coupons toward a purchase. These items were included in the gift bags.

Kana:takon School has established two Reading Campaigns. The first campaign is for the Head Start, K4 and K5 students. The September goal was to read 10 books for the month. Head Start and K4 are beginning the Reading Campaign for the month of October. The following students were recognized for meeting their goal for September: in K5-Edward Jacobs-20 books, Johnni Cash Benedict- read 20 books, Kyle Cuillierier-read 10 books, Kendra Square-read 10 books and Javen Lazore-read 20 books.

The Grade 7 and 8 students participate in the GRAMBE Reading Campaign. Each student is required to read for 20 minutes each night and answer four questions that pertain to their reading. The homeroom that acquires the most points throughout the month is recognized as well as the student from each homeroom with the highest number of points for the month. Mrs. Lafrance’s homeroom 8B acquired the most points for the month, 37 points. The following students were recognized; Kobryn Chaussi, Dominique Cook, Falan Francis, Jessica Francis, Keisha Jacobs, Nita Jacobs, Kiana Jacobs-Thompson, Tritan Jock-Cole, Amanda Lazore, Sky Leaf, Bryden Montour, Montana Oakes Jacobs, Dalton Thomas and Preston Thompson. These students along with the K5 students will each receive a continental breakfast where they will choose $5.00 worth of books from the Scholastic Book Order form. The following students were the top readers in each homeroom; 7A-Quinten Roundpoint and Daylon Skidders, 7B-Tehaienkwarentohs Thompson, 8A-Hannah Sawatis and Jade Benedict, 8B-Falan Francis and Jessica Francis. Each student received a certificate and a $10.00 iTunes card.

k5 Attendance Award

Kana:takon School recognizes the class with the highest attendance percentage for the month with a reward. This month the class with a 97% attendance rate was the K5 class. They will receive a pizza party and drinks. The overall attendance for the month of September at Kana:takon School was 94%. Congratulations to all!!

Kana:takon School would also like to thank the community, parents and students for the purchase of tickets for our wood-burned magazine rack. The drawing was held on Friday, October 7th. The winner of the magazine rack was Judy Cole. Kana:takon School would like to extend a special thank you to Tracy King for his donation of the magazine rack. The Monthly Awards Committee represented by Lana King, Kristin Ransom, and Marion Thompson raised $800.00 from this raffle, which will be used to fund our monthly awards.
