•• The Mohawk Nation Longhouse Faithkeepers will be scheduling the Maple Tree Ceremony in the next few days. This is the ceremony to give thanks to the Creator for the leader of the trees. Please bring tobacco, please wear your warm clothing and boots, bread and cookies and strawberries. Please listen to CKON Radio for the date and time.

•• The Seneca Nation is in mourning over the passing of Roiane Norman Hill, a condoled chief at the Tonawanda Seneca Longhouse. Norman sits under a Wolf Clan title. Norman is survived by his wife, Birdie, a condoled Cayuga clanmother, by two sons, by a daughter and a chosen son. Funeral services are Friday at 2 p.m. at the Tonawanda Seneca longhouse.

•• The Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs held their monthly meeting on Sunday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m. at the Nation longhouse.

The agenda included “Report from Howard Thompson on a Peace and Trade meeting held in January, a meeting with Canadian officials on February 21st and a meeting with the Czechoslovakia embassy concerning the Iroquois Nationals traveling to Czechoslovakia on Haudenosaunee passports.

Next was a report from Ernest David about a meeting he attended in Denver, Colorado along with Mike McDonald, Pete Jemison (Seneca) and Chris Abrams (Seneca). The meeting was about Native artifacts, human remains and the return of said items to the rightful nation. The Native attendees at the meeting did have the opportunity to view over 200 false face masks, wampum belts and some human remains. There will be time frames for the museum curators to respond to the native requests of the items and a time frame for the nations to respond.

•• The final item was a thanks of appreciation to Charlie Patten and Dave Arquette for their years of dedication and service the Mohawk people.

The meeting was then closed.
