Salmon River planning high school Native American Day celebration

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the Title VII program in conjunction with the

Salmon River Central School Mohawk Club will be hosting the annual Native American Day Celebration at the Salmon River Secondary School. This event highlights Native

Americans, and specifically Haudenosaunee culture. This year’s events include a fashion show, a student film showcase, a smoke dance/fancy dance exhibition, and a social dance. As part of this day, we encourage our students to wear their traditional dress and to participate in the fashion show if they choose.

The Mohawk Club will be serving Native foods including corn soup and strawberry drink during the lunch periods in the high school lobby. The school has invited singers who include SRC alumni to facilitate the social dance in the afternoon.

We look forward to another successful Native American Day celebration. Here is the schedule for the day:

8:30-9:30am- SRC Native Film Showcase & Fashion Show & Fancy Dance/Smoke

Dance Exhibition (featuring local fashion designers: High School Auditorium) Grades 7-8

9:40-11:00am- Social Dance (High School Gymnasium) Grades 6-8

11:00-12:15pm- Corn soup, strawberry drink (High School Lobby)

12:15-1:15pm- SRC Native Film Showcase & Fashion Show & Fancy Dance/Smoke

Dance Exhibition (featuring local fashion designers: High School

Auditorium) Grades 9-12

1:20-2:40pm- Social Dance (High School Gymnasium) Grades 9-12
