On November 1st, 2010 at approximately 2:24 a.m. the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned residence on Island Road across from the Kawehnoke Recreation Center. Upon arrival the structure was fully engulfed in flames. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Chief Jerry Swamp states that this year’s “Hallowe’en was a relatively quiet one”. Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter Tom Francis, Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service Community Service and Support Officer Cst. Rob White and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Liaison Officer Cpl. Cynthia Lord had attended area schools in the week leading up to Hallowe’en presenting students with Hallowe’en safety tips. Chief Swamp feels that “the role that the area Police Services are taking in educating the youth played a major part in how safe and quiet this year’s Hallowe’en was. It was very nice to see that the spirit of the holiday was returned back to the kids”.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service encourages anyone with any information that will assist in their investigations, to please contact Police at 613-575-2000 or Akwesasne Crime Stoppers at  613-575-2255.  Help police serve the victims of crime!
