In 2006, after extensive community consultation, The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne signed a Permit Agreement with Telus Communications to erect a communications tower at Anowarako:wa Arena. This consists of a 100 feet by 100 feet fenced in area on the furthermost corner of the arena grounds wherein a state of the art tower with antennas and a 10 ft. x 10 ft. structure to accommodate electric equipment are found. During those initial consultations it was made clear that there could be future opportunities of sub-leasing on the existing tower whereby we would be beneficiary in the area of financials and improved service.
Negotiations have recently concluded with Bell Mobility and Akwesasronon will soon have a choice to enjoy similar service between 2 separate companies because Telus and Bell Mobility operate on totally separate frequencies. All components of this undertaking, inclusive of a duplication of the existing antenna configuration and a 10 ft. x 10 ft. structure for electrical wares will be within the existing fenced in area and original footprint. As is the case with the Telus Permit, all proceeds will go directly into offsetting operating costs at Anowarako:wa Arena.
Please note that construction will begin on Monday, October 4th, 2010 up until approximately Friday, October 22, 2010.
Please contact the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Government Offices if you have any questions.
