Feast Day held in honor of Kateri Tekakwitha

The actual “Blessed Kateri Award” that was presented to the Bishop on the Kateri Feast Day in Kahnawake on Sunday April 19, 2009.

Sunday, April 18th was the feast day of Kateri Tekakwitha and this was celebrated at the 10:30 mass in Kahnawake. The Knights of Columbus, including Charles Jacobs and Orlo Ransom from Akwesasne, lead the procession. The music for the mass was especially beautiful when we heard the women who sing soprano and the men in the choir. Bishop

Jacques Berthelet of the Saint Jean-Longueuil Diocese presided over the mass which included English, French readings and the twenty children who said the Our Father in Mohawk. At the end of the Mass Deacon Ronald Boyer presented Bishop Berthelet with the annual Kateri Tekakwitha Award for all of his support for the people of Kahnawake and the cause of Blessed Kateri. This annual celebration for Blessed Kateri is always the Sunday after Easter at the Devine Mercy mass and I always feel blessed when I come out of that Holy place. At the dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall following the mass I was fortunate to meet Gates Richer, the woman who designed a stained glass window of Blessed Kateri which was installed five years ago. She had

such a wonderful story about the experience that we agreed to stay in touch so I can get more details. She has a picture she is willing to share with me.
