Mohawk International Raceway (MIR) in Akwesasne, NY will wrap up the 2008 season and have a meeting for the upcoming 2009 season with a race party set for Sunday, March 8th from 1-5 p.m. at the Massena elks Lodge. This will be a casual-dress event. All interested race teams are invited to attend.

The first order of business will be to formally crown the 2008 MIR track champions. John Lazore of Akwesasne claimed his first career Coors Light DIRTcar 358-Modified title while Stephane LeBrun of Gatineau, Que. Grabbed top honors in the Action Race Parts DIRTcar Pro Stock division. Three Akwesasne drivers earned the remaining division titles: Harvey Arquette, Jr. won the Pecore Performance and transmission Semi-Pro championship, Claudia Tarbell scored her second straight Helm’s Salvage and Trucking Bandit title, and Kevin Thompson claimed top honors in the Bash Brothers Motosports Enduro division.

After the champions are officially introduced and receive their awards, MIR officials will address the many changes for the 2009 season. With MIR switching to Friday night racing and construction crews hard at work rebuilding the facility for opening night on May 22nd, officials will review procedures and rules for the new season. Both new and established teams are encouraged to attend this meeting.

This pre-season race party will also be a chance for racers, crew members and officials to get together in a casual atmosphere, trade stories from over the winter months, and discuss plans for the new season.

The 2008 championship awards will begin at 1 p.m., with the rules meeting to begin immediately after. The party will go on throughout the afternoon.

The Massena Elks Lodge is located at 20 Bowers St. in Massena.
