Indian Time - A Voice from the Eastern Door

After a great Christmas break, students and staff are back to continue the 2008/09 school year.  We would like to welcome our new principal, Mrs. Marie Seymour, and wish her well in her new position.  As the custom is at Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School, we held our awards ceremony on January 16th to acknowledge December’s Student of the Month, Most Improved, Athletes of the Month and Perfect Attendance recipients.

December is always a difficult month for students to stay focused on the task at hand, but the students managed to do their best.  Congratulations to all the certificate recipients for a job well done during a demanding time of the school year.

We also took the opportunity to present certificates to the winners and second place competitors of the annual Derby Day Race.  Two team members race across the gym as a horse and driver.  Sometimes the winning team has a tall, long legged horse as was the case this year.  Winners of the race were Mr. D. Chatterton and Falon Francis, second place went to Lakota Square and Thomas Thompson.
