Krunch win Florida tournament

Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament Champions, the Krunch.

The Kanienkehaka Krunch JV Field Lacrosse Team won the Dick’s Tournament of Champions Rising Stars Division held in Wesley Chapel, Florida Jan. 2-4.  The team went undefeated and became the talk of the tournament.  Before the start of each game or new bracket the boys proudly sang and danced the traditional Stomp Dance side by side honoring their heritage for all to see. The boys all displayed cooperation, sportsmanship and great skill during the whole tournament.  The team also had many Akwesasnoron spectators, who either live in Florida for the winter or who just were in Florida for vacation; they came out to support the Krunch.

Tournament Scores were:

Game 1  14-4 vs. Georgia Copperheads

Game 2  17-4 vs., Chicago Select

Game 3  23-4 vs. Tampa Bay Fire

The team then entered the qualifying bracket for the Championship.

Winning Game 4 14-3 against the Connecticut Cardinals, which then advanced the team into the Semi final (Game 5) against the Tampa Tribe. The team won the game 18-2.

Next up was the Championship at which the Krunch faced the Georgia Copperheads.  The Krunch defeated the Copperheads 19-4 winning the Championship!

Many thanks to all those who took part in the Krunch’s fundraising efforts, such as the $5,000 Giveaway and 4on4 Indoor lacrosse tournament.  Also to MCA, Post 1479 Ladies Auxiliary and all those who generously donated to the team. Your help and contributions would not have made the team a success.
