Students rewarded for reading

Mr. Chevrier finally raises the Stanley Cup.

The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School reading incentive program has come to an end.  With a theme based on the NHL it was only fitting that the winning reading team (class) be awarded the Stanley Cup.  This year the winning class of the top prize was the grade six class of Mrs. Lalonde with a score of 4307 points.

 Individual Top Reader Awards were also presented to the top readers for the year in each class as well as the top readers for each grade.

 Top Readers by Grade

Pre-K:  Darren Thompson-Cook    271 points

Kindergarten:  Jessica White    168 points

Grade 3: Rachel Benedict    128 points

Grade 4:  Jordan Leaf    212 points

Grade 5:  Tiarra Square    660 points

Grade 6:  Serena Hall    737 points

Top individual readers from grades Pre-K to Grade 6.

 The Pre-K and Kindergarten winners had a special surprise as they each won a brand new bicycle.  The grade 3 to 6 students were each given a certificate and a variety of prizes.  The Stanley Cup is on display at AMS at the present time and even Mr. Chevrier got caught up in the atmosphere as his Toronto Maple Leafs finally got to raise the cup.

 The “Give Reading Your Best Shot” incentive program was a great success and we have the reading committee to thank for that: Leona Lafrance, Cheryl Bruyere, Denise Jackson, Michelle Goss, Melissa Smyth, Binki Herne and Charles Lazare.  Thanks for all your hard work; you did a great job.

 We would like to also thank all those who supported the reading program by coming to the school, helping with presentations and supplying incentives for the readers;

The Cornwall Colts Organization, The Akwesasne Wolves, Mr. Dan Bruyere, Sgt. Roger Mitchell  (Akwesasne Mohawk Police), Akwesasne Area Management Board and Darcy Jackson.
