On Sunday night Cornwall Motor Speedway had a big night of racing. After a washed out first night which saw only two features run the rest of the features were run this week. There was a full racing card plus three leftover feature races from the previous Sunday. All in all, 137 laps of feature race racing.

The first makeup feature race was interesting since it was the same lineup from the first twin 25, won by Laurent Laudicer, only flip flopped. They took the finishing order from the first race and reversed it for the second race, meaning the last place car from the first race was the pace car for the second race. This is what made the race exciting because the fastest cars had to move through the pack.

Making a charge early was Marc Therrien who got a little high and was passed by the 95 of Mark Hitchcock. Hitchcock along with the 40 of Joel Doirin, 23 of Laurent Laudicer, 12 of Clayton Benedict, 66 of Carey Terrance, 37 of Kyle Jacobs and 19 of John Lazore. The ninth lap was saw three cars getting tangled on turn one. After the wreckage was cleared, which involved “cradling” the red 22 modified of Eric Gauvreau between two wreckers, the cars were lined up again the race was on with only one other caution.

Working his way past through traffic with skill Hitchcock navigated his way to the front with Joel Doirin and Clayton Benedict breathing down his neck. Hitchcock held on to the lead and took the victory followed by Joel Doiron, Lance Willix, Clayton Benedict and Carey Terrance. Up on victory lane Hitchcock and his 95 modified had pictures taken and Mark was interviewed. If you didn’t know it, Mark Hitchcock is retiring from racing this year. After this season you won’t be seeing him behind the wheel anymore. Being interviewed Hitchcock said “I’m glad to still be competitive. I hope to be competitive to the end.”

The last modified feature race, a scheduled 30 lap feature, was run on a track well packed and ready for racing. After a shaky start and restart the modifieds got dialed in and kept the pedal to the metal. An almost uninterrupted 30 lap race was run with the leaders Roy Delormier, Clement Therrien, John Lazore, Kyle Jacobs, Carey Terrance and Joel Doirin running through lap traffic. John Lazore passed Clement Therrien and then Roy Delormier for the lead. Kyle Jacobs passed Clement Therrien and was making a charge for first when he got caught up John Lazore giving Carey an opportunity to pass. If you were a fan in the stands like myself this race was hard to watch as the leaders got into lap traffic. If you took your eyes off the action for a second you would have lost track of the leaders.

In the end Carey Terrance held on to the lead with an unstoppable run through lap traffic with Kyle Jacobs, Clement Therrien, Joel Doirin and Roy Delormier keeping him in their sights. It was Carey Terrance’s night though and it must have been gratifying after a non-finish the night before at Mohawk International Raceway. Terrance and his unmistakable 66 modified parked in Victory Lane for pictures and an interview. He stated he was happy with his first win in Cornwall this year and plans for more.
