COMMUNITY SAFETY ALERT - Sexual Assault -

 


Cornwall, Ont. – The Cornwall Community Police Service is issuing a community safety alert and requesting the public’s assistance in identifying an individual involved in a sexual assault that occurred shortly after 8:15 a.m. this morning.

A lone 15-year-old female was walking north bound on Marlborough Street near Seventh Street East when she was approached by a male. The man struck up a conversation and at one point grabbed the youth pulling her close and inappropriately touched her. The victim pushed him away and he fled south bound on Marlborough Street.  He is described as a white male, 5’5”, early 20’s, muscular build with short dark brown hair and was unshaven.  He was wearing a black ball cap, large sunglasses, a black sweatshirt and black jeans.

SAFETY ON THE STREET

There are ways in which you can reduce the risk of being a victim:

• Walk assertively and in well-lit areas.

• Avoid being alone if you can.

• Walk in the centre of the sidewalk, away from alleys and doorways.

• If you suspect you are being followed, cross the street, go to the nearest home, a service station or a business and call the police.

• Be aware of your surroundings and avoid areas that increase your chances of being a victim.

• Report problems to the police, we welcome the information and can advise you on prevention methods.
