Dear Editor, She:kon. Spring has now sprung and the election season will soon be upon us. The May tribal caucus will again be a mismatched popularity contest, but the tribal election board will muddle through the process. For one weekend at least, everyone that is nominated will have sweet dreams about their elected potential. Obviously, the need for a two part electoral system is now at hand. The only people happy with a “one and done election” are the sign shops that sell the candidate signs, even to those with little chance of winning. A p...
Letter to the Editor March 1, 2014 In 2011 a member of the redeveloped Mohawk Anti-tax Steering Committee, asked that I join, which I accepted and was voted in. It was presumed I could offer methods other than doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. The intent of some of the committee was to use the so-called “Longhouse Way’’ against US and NYS tax. Funding was to be acquired through the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council Inc’s (DC initial file # 822713, NYDOS ID # 1539007) Restricted Tax Legislation Revenue account...

The Mohawk Nation held underlying title to any given section of territory within its ancestral boundaries with the people retaining the right to settle, develop and exchange land as long as the property was used in compliance with traditional law and...
